Supported GPUsįor years, users of AMD GPUs struggled to make their graphics cards work on Linux-based operating systems. The drivers suite provides native graphical installers for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, and it is known to work well with the major Linux operating systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise, openSUSE and Ubuntu. Furthermore, the Big Desktop option will stretch a single desktop across two screens, and Dual Head separates instances of X running on each screen. While the Laptop mode lets users to toggle between internal or external screen of a laptop, the Clone mode will display the same content on both monitors. In addition, it allows for the following monitor arrangements: Laptop Mode, Clone Mode, Big Desktop, and Dual Head.

It provides support for TV output on AMD graphics cards that support TV-out functionality. AMDGPU-PRO Driver (formerly ATI Radeon Linux Display Drivers and AMD Catalyst) is a free project that tries to distribute proprietary drivers for all ATI and AMD Radeon graphics cards on Linux-based operating systems. Cinnamon crashes and I can't control the display brightness with the keyboard buttons.

The amdgpu driver seems to be loaded, but i don't think i have hardware acceleration, glxgears won't run. The display is at full brightness and the colors look ok. If I try to restart it, it crashes again. After login there is a message that Cinnamon just crashed and if I want to try and start it again. I've tried both driver version, each on a fresh Linux Mint 19.1 installation.īut every time the system boots, the screen flashes a distorted white pattern, then goes to black for a second and then loads the login screen.

I'm not installing both driver versions at the same time. If I modify /etc/os-release lines 3 and 6 to identify as ubuntu 18.04 both installations run through completely. The display is not that bright, probably half brightness and the colors are completely flat, gamma missing. After the installation it only uses software rendering mode. Secure boot was disabled for the os and driver installation.

I installed a Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon on a new "HP Laptop 15-db1204ng".
